This is part two of the interview with Ultra Girls Cosplay. To view part one click here.
1. How has Cosplay affected your day to day life?
a. Cosplay is such a huge part of our lives, we do have day jobs but outside of that its all building and planning.
2. How do you decide what you are going to cosplay?
a. We each have HUGE lists haha! Sometimes we coordinate, sometimes we have specific cosplays and deadlines to meet. But 99% of the time we already know what we are going to build next once we've completed a cosplay.
3. With do you think of “Cosplay Celebrities”?
a. We think it's fantastic. Anytime you can turn something you love into a career, you should go for it. A specific cosplayers status doesn't change how or why you cosplay!
4. Thoughts on Homemade Cosplay Vs. Commissioned?
a. Just be honest. If you made it, awesome! If you didn't, that's great too - but give adequate credit. Don't say you did if you didn't.
5. Do you have a Cosplay “Bucket List”?
a. We each do and they are miles long.
6. Who are your favorite Cosplayers?
a. Oh man, what a question. April Gloria. DoodleSpork Cosplay. Tahnee Lane. Ani-Mia. Alexa Heart. Ivy Doomkitty. Yaya. Casey Renee. Super Kayce. Knightmage. We could go on forever!
7. When it comes to photographs at conventions, when do you think its appropriate and not appropriate for people to ask for photos?
a. We appreciate people asking so much, honestly if you ask - even if we are in a hurry - we will probably stop for you. Maybe not while we're eating though.
8. If you make your own costumes, where is your favorite place to source materials?
a. JoAnns! Amazon!
9. What are your thoughts on screen accuracy versus artistic interpretation?
a. Cosplay is so subjective. We genuinely enjoy a mix. Making a 100% screen accurate cosplay is fantastic and so much work - but so are artistic interpretations.
10. How much does makeup figure into your overall look?
a. Personally - We think make up is SUPER IMPORTANT. Some people aren't into it and that's fine too but if you're competing - make up should absolutely be a part of your overall look if the character requires it.
11. Best cosplay trick/tip?
a. Safety pins and heavy duty tape. Take them with you always! Sometimes things fall apart haha.
12. What would you say are the must-have tools when it comes to making costuming?
a. The guns - heat gun and glue gun. Contact cement is your best friend. ALSO A MASK IF YOURE HEATING FOAM ALWAYS!
13. Advice to people just starting out in cosplay?
a. JUST DO IT! If you run into negative people, move along and keep doing what you love. No one can ruin cosplay for you if you don't let them!
